Pilot

As with all TV serials, the first in a series that is to last, say about 20 – 25 episodes, will always be named “Pilot”, regardless. Most importantly, “Pilot” will be judged by viewers in the general public, and if viewership is high enough, it will be continued, and more episodes will be aired.

Some stats on TV pilots and their responses? Na…, let’s move on…

Similarly, Surgexperiences will be hosting the first carnival on the 1st of July. It will be hosted on my blog at “monash medical student“. A copy will be available here at Surgexperiences as well.

In the future, this will be the case as well, but i am thinking of an idea whereby the host site only posts a condensed version (immediate release) of the carnival, and the complete version (extended release) will be available exclusively at Surgexperiences. (Credit now has to be given to Dr. Val and the Voice of Reason, for her immediate and extended releases of Grand Rounds 3.38) Any objections or other alternate suggestions will be deeply appreciated.

Surgexperiences’ Vision

Surgexperiences aims to be the blog carnival for everything surgical and more. It targets anyone who wishes to read more about the art and science of surgery. The articles to be submitted to Surgexperiences should typically be those that give a more in-depth insight into surgery than what the popular media already portrays, for example, Grey’s Anatomy, or Dr. 90120, or Plastic Surgery 101: Before and After.

Do refer to the guidelines (tab above), and please comply with the Healthcare Blogger Code of Ethics.

While it is my brainchild, it is merely a spin-off idea from Nick Genes’ extremely popular weekly Grand Rounds. Following Grand Rounds’ pilot on 28 Sept 04, there has been an explosion in the number of medical blogs on the internet. Much has happened ever since – some pleasant, some unpleasant, some sad. (Barbados Butterfly, Fat Doctor, Flea, Blogborygmi). Also, more medical blog carnivals have surfaced, and it seems as if the specialization and sub-specialization trend in the medical career has caught on even online with medical blogging.

Current medical blog carnivals

The current medical carnivals i know of now are:

  1. Grand Rounds – the original weekly compendium of the best in the medical blogosphere
  2. Change of Shift – a nursing blog carnival, initiated by Kim, an experienced nurse at SF Bay Area, and a great senior as well!
  3. Radiology Grand Rounds – brainchild of Sumer Sethi, author of “Review of Radiology”
  4. Paediatrics Grand Rounds – created by Clark Bartram, a great paediatrician and medblogger
  5. Revolution Grand Rounds – the most interesting posts from the medical experts at Revolution Health. Latest here.
  6. Gene Genie – The blog carnival of genes and genetic conditions, started by Bertalan.
  7. Medicine 2.0 – A blog carnival about web 2.0 and medicine, passionately maintained by Bertalan, again.

Now, do let me know of any more so this list can be complete for the benefit of the entire medical blogosphere.

:)

Once again, 1st July. Surgexperiences. Pilot. Mark it on your calendars. Please submit your articles to me by 29th June. (Submission instructions on the right column)

(i apologise for the wordy post that lacks any banner, pictures or advertisements, its time to head back to head and neck anatomy)

He put his eye to the hole. He just managed to spy some people sitting in deckchairs chanting, before a finger came out of nowhere and poked him in the eye. As he staggered back, the people started chanting, “Fourteen, fourteen, fourteen…”
